Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, bacon bits, and shredded cheddar cheese.
- Add the mashed banana, peanut butter, and egg to the dry ingredients.
- Mix all the ingredients together until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add water a little at a time until it reaches a workable consistency.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out fun shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the treats are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow the treats to cool completely on a wire rack.
Notes
Storage & Reheating:
Store the cooled treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, keep them in the freezer for up to three months. Remember, these are occasional treats and should be given in moderation. Always consult your veterinarian if your dog has dietary restrictions or allergies. Variations:
- Substitute bacon bits with cooked chicken or turkey for a different flavor.
- Try adding pumpkin puree for a seasonal twist.
- Use oat flour instead of whole wheat flour for a gluten-free option.
