Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain pumpkin puree unsweetened
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter no xylitol
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon optional, in small amounts
  • 1/4 cup water as needed

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Measuring cups
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Cookie cutters

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and egg. Mix until smooth.
  3. Add the rolled oats, whole wheat flour, and cinnamon (if using) to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
  4. If the dough is too dry, gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, until the mixture holds together but is not sticky.
  5. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes from the dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown and feel firm to the touch.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.

Notes

Storage & Reheating:
Store these treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze the cookies for up to three months. Remember that these treats are an occasional snack, not a complete diet, and introduce new treats gradually. Always consult your veterinarian if your dog has health issues, allergies, or is on a special diet.
Variations:
- Substitute whole wheat flour with oat flour for a gluten-free option.
- Add mashed bananas for a sweeter flavor.
- Incorporate finely chopped carrots for added nutrition and texture.
- Use unsweetened applesauce instead of peanut butter for a lower fat option.
