Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup grated carrot
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the grated carrot and applesauce, mixing well.
  3. Add the egg and olive oil to the mixture and stir until fully combined.
  4. Gradually add the whole wheat flour and rolled oats, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. If using, sprinkle in the cinnamon and mix until incorporated.
  6. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Use cookie cutters to shape the treats or simply cut them into squares with a knife.
  8. Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and firm.
  9. Allow the treats to cool completely before serving them to your furry friend.

Notes

Storage & Reheating:
Store the Carrot Apple Crunchies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. For longer storage, you can freeze the treats for up to 3 months. Remember, these are treats, not a complete diet, so feed them in moderation. Always consult your veterinarian if your dog has health issues, allergies, or special dietary needs.
Variations:
- Substitute grated zucchini for carrot for a different veggie flavor.
- Add 1/4 cup of peanut butter (make sure it's xylitol-free) for a nutty twist.
