Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter no xylitol
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup water as needed

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Dog bone cookie cutter (or any shape you prefer)
  • 1 Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and egg until well mixed.
  3. Gradually add the whole wheat flour and rolled oats to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. If the dough is too dry, add water a little at a time until it reaches a workable consistency.
  5. Dust your work surface with a bit of flour, and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack before serving to your dog.

Notes

Storage & Reheating:
Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. These are occasional snacks, not a full meal, so be sure to treat your dog in moderation.
Variations:
- Add mashed sweet potato for a different flavor and texture.
- Mix in some finely chopped carrots for added nutrition.
- Substitute almond flour for whole wheat flour for a gluten-free option.
