Ingredients

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree plain, unsweetened
  • 1 ripe banana mashed
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter no xylitol
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup water as needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon optional

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Dog bone-shaped cookie cutters

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In the mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, mashed banana, and natural peanut butter until well blended.
  3. Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated.
  4. Gradually add the whole wheat flour, stirring until a dough begins to form.
  5. If the dough is too dry, add water a tablespoon at a time until it reaches a workable consistency.
  6. Optionally, mix in the cinnamon to add a little extra flavor.
  7. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Use dog bone-shaped cookie cutters to cut out the treats and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow the treats to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Storage & Reheating:
Store the treats in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 2 weeks. For longer storage, you can freeze the treats for up to 3 months. Remember, these are occasional snacks, not a complete diet, and consult your veterinarian if your dog has any health issues or allergies.
Variations:
- Substitute whole wheat flour with oat flour for a gluten-free option.
- Replace pumpkin with sweet potato puree for a different flavor.
- Add 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce for added moisture and flavor.
