Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, peanut butter, yogurt, water, egg, and mashed banana. Mix well until a dough forms.
- Spoon or pipe the mixture into the donut pan, filling each mold about 3/4 full.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove the donuts from the oven and let them cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the donuts cool, prepare the frosting by mixing the additional yogurt until smooth.
- Once the donuts are fully cooled, use a piping bag or a ziplock bag with the corner cut off to frost the donuts with yogurt.
- If desired, sprinkle with turkey bacon bits for a fun and savory touch!
Notes
Storage & Reheating:
Store the dog donuts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze the donuts for up to 3 months. Remember, these are treats, not a complete diet, so feed them in moderation and introduce new treats gradually. Variations:
- Substitute pumpkin puree for mashed banana for a different flavor.
- Add a tablespoon of honey to the batter for a touch of sweetness (ensure your dog is over 1 year old).
- Use blueberry yogurt instead of plain yogurt for a fruity twist.
