Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed banana, natural peanut butter, plain yogurt, and egg. Mix well until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and baking soda.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling each liner about 2/3 full.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, allow the pupcakes to cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the optional cream cheese topping, mix the low-fat cream cheese and honey in a small bowl until smooth. Once the pupcakes are fully cooled, use a piping bag to decorate the top with the cream cheese mixture.
Notes
Storage & Reheating:
Store the pupcakes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For longer storage, they can be frozen for up to 3 months. Remember, these are treats and should be fed in moderation. Always consult with your veterinarian if you have concerns about your dog’s diet. Variations:
- Substitute apple sauce for banana for a different flavor.
- Add blueberries to the batter for a fruity twist.
- Use pumpkin puree instead of banana for a seasonal treat.
- Top with plain yogurt instead of cream cheese for a lighter option.
