Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain *pumpkin puree* unsweetened
  • 1 cup grated *carrot*
  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 large *egg*
  • 2 tablespoons *olive oil*

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Cookie cutter (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the *pumpkin puree*, grated *carrot*, *egg*, and *olive oil*. Mix well until fully combined.
  3. Gradually add the whole wheat flour to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Roll it out to about ¼ inch thickness.
  5. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the dough, or simply cut it into squares with a knife.
  6. Place the cut treats onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until they are firm and slightly golden.
  7. Allow the treats to cool completely on a wire rack before serving them to your pup.

Notes

Storage & Reheating:
Store the chews in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. For longer storage, freeze the treats for up to 3 months. Always remember that these are *occasional treats*, not a complete diet. Introduce them slowly to your pup's diet and consult your veterinarian if there are any health concerns.
Variations:
- Substitute *carrot* with *sweet potato* for a different flavor.
- Add ½ cup of *peanut butter* (natural, no xylitol) for an extra tasty treat.
- Incorporate 1/4 cup of *blueberries* for added antioxidants and flavor.
